Are you looking for an internship in marketing, but aren't sure what tasks are involved in push marketing or online marketing (newsletter & app) on a daily basis? Then you've come to the right place, because in today's interview Annika gives you an insight into her time as an intern in Push Marketing.
Sure, I'm Annika, 22 years old and from near Coburg. I completed my dual bachelor's degree in insurance management in March. My Master's degree doesn't start until October, so I wanted to take advantage of this gap and do an internship during this time. In my free time, I like to go out, hang out with friends and do a lot of sport. I am also a very active person with a wide range of interests.
I became aware of the job advertisement via Xing. I was looking for an internship in marketing at a company that was easy to reach from Coburg. As I also wanted to join a larger company, the BAUR Group was the perfect fit. I was immediately attracted by the fact that it was another area of marketing that I hadn't got to know before. In addition, the tasks in push marketing are much more creative and not as number-heavy as in other areas. That also really appealed to me and convinced me.
Yes, definitely! My tasks during the internship were very creative and varied. It was perhaps even a little overwhelming at the beginning, as I had never worked so creatively before, but I quickly found my feet. I particularly liked the fact that I was given a lot of responsibility. I was able to implement my own ideas and provide creative impetus for other projects. The hope that I would get to know a completely different side of marketing was also confirmed. So I can only say that my expectations were completely fulfilled.
One major task was to create reports on our push marketing activities. In other words, for all push messages that are sent and for all messages in the Message Center. Another task was to maintain these reports on an ongoing basis. It was very exciting for me at the start of my internship, as my department had just set up the Message Center and I was able to help design it directly. The message center is a message box in the app for our customers. I had to create and schedule new messages for it on a regular basis. So I had to pick out suitable images for the corresponding actions and write texts for them in order to build up a suitable message piece by piece. Of course, the messages also had to be tested afterwards.
These tasks were my daily business, so to speak, but there were always smaller things to do as well. For example, documenting my individual work steps to make it as easy as possible to train the next interns. Or designing different use cases when smaller and new things were added within the app. So you could really say that I was involved in many topics and tasks.
It's really difficult to say, as there were so many wonderful moments. But I think the best was really the day when we all went back to the office together. It probably wasn't our most productive day, but it was definitely very nice to finally get to know all our colleagues in person. We were able to exchange ideas much better on this day, have breakfast together and also just have a quick chat. This day also helped me to better assess my colleagues and to better understand their opinions and reactions.
But if you relate the best moment to my tasks, then it was definitely going live at the message center. My supervisor was on vacation at the time, so I was almost solely responsible for it. We prepared the whole thing together, but it was still exciting to see whether everything worked in the end.
I have just moved to Leipzig and will be starting a master's degree in business administration with a focus on marketing in October. I can also stay on at the BAUR Group as a working student in Push Marketing and support the team remotely. I was definitely very happy about that.
I would definitely like to thank my team. You are incredibly cool, gave me a lot of support with many tasks and were always there to answer my questions. If I ever got stuck, you were always able to give me good advice. What's more, I don't take it for granted at all that you were so understanding of many issues, whether they were personal or professional. You really always try to support me. Thank you, I had a lot of fun with my tasks and also because of the good cooperation! I'm looking forward to the coming time together with you!
