Today we would like to introduce you to Sina. She did an internship in our Watch Purchasing department. Find out how she got there and what she experienced.
Hello everyone! I'm Sina and I'm 23 years old. I come from beautiful Bayreuth and am studying business administration there.
Before starting my studies, I did an apprenticeship as an office management assistant and spent most of my time in the purchasing department because that's where I liked it best. I would also like to specialize in this area during my studies. In order to gain more practical experience, I was looking for an internship in Purchasing where I would also have a connection to the products. Then I came across the internship in Watch Purchasing at BAUR, which naturally appealed to me straight away.
Thanks to the introduction of Microsoft 365, we were well prepared to work in the Anywhere Office. This meant it was actually the perfect combination of working in the office and working from home for me. As I have a long commute, I really appreciate the fact that even as an intern you have the opportunity to work from home without any problems. That really impressed me here.
I switch on my laptop in the morning and always check my emails and Teams first to see what's coming up. And then I start working through the tasks. In Category Management Watches, we buy for BAUR and OTTO and are responsible for the watch range. My main tasks consisted of entering the product information in the online store, naming the images and passing them on to the service providers so that they are displayed in the correct order in the online store. My tasks also included creating articles and writing search engine-optimized texts.
Thanks to my training, I already had a rough idea of how things work in purchasing and what tasks are involved. However, it was particularly interesting for me to find out what steps take place until a finished product appears in the online store with an image and content. And these expectations were definitely fulfilled. You really got a good insight "behind the scenes".
What I would see as a challenge for the profession in general is putting your own taste aside when selecting watches. When designing the product range, it is important to make decisions based on trends or key figures. Even watches that may not suit your own taste often do very well.
However, I saw my internship directly less as a challenge and more as an opportunity. Thanks to my training, I already knew roughly what to expect, so I saw the various tasks as an opportunity to gain even more experience in this area, which is where I would like to work later on.
I particularly liked the fact that I had the opportunity to take part in meetings with suppliers during the coronavirus pandemic, where various watches were presented. These appointments took place via teams and this gave me a good impression of how such appointments work.
Work-life balance-oriented - very familiar (you culture) - varied
