Mechatronics is a man's job? Not at all!

Nadine was our first trainee when we first offered the apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician in the BAUR Group. But isn't this profession actually seen as a purely male profession? Nadine answers this question in an interview.
"Fun for success" - that's what makes an apprenticeship in the BAUR Group so special. And if you have a good understanding of mathematical relationships, manual skills and an interest in technology and IT, you can really get to grips with the apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician. In this apprenticeship, you will acquire knowledge of electronics, metal technology and IT technology. In this interview, Nadine tells you about her tasks, why she chose this apprenticeship and why mechatronics is not just for men.
Hey Nadine, would you like to introduce yourself?
I am 31, have been with the BAUR Group since 2007 and completed my training as a mechatronics technician here.
Where does your fascination for mechatronics come from? And why did you choose this apprenticeship?
I always wanted to do something mechanical or manual.
One could argue that the profession of mechatronics technician is predominantly a male profession. What do you say to that?
Although it is mainly men who do this job, nowadays there are also many women who choose it. Women also have manual skills and understanding and there should be many more women in the profession.
What exactly are your tasks as a mechatronics engineer in the BAUR Group?
Maintenance, repair, servicing, troubleshooting and fault finding on conveyor systems, shipping and packaging machines and folding systems.
When you think of BAUR, you actually think of the online store, fashion or chic shoes - why do you actually need mechatronics engineers?
The clothing and shoes are packed and shipped here. Machines are sometimes required for packing and the goods are also dispatched via conveyor belts and various systems.
We repair the machines and systems, carry out maintenance and rectify faults, for example if the parcels become jammed.
What advice would you give to people who are also interested in training as a mechatronics engineer?
Simply apply 😉. If you're not sure, do an internship first.
