The BAUR Group has a Business Intelligence (BI) department in its IT division. Stefan tells us today what the team's tasks and challenges are.
My name is Stefan Schmaus and I am 31 years old. I live in the Upper Franconian town of Scheßlitz. I have been working in the BI (Business Intelligence) team at BAUR-IT since 2018.
It all started with an exciting internship that I was looking for as additional experience during my Master's degree in Business Informatics. This resulted in a position as a Master's student, which ultimately turned into a permanent position, as it was a perfect fit for both sides.
Our tasks are wide-ranging, but in simple terms they can be described as bringing together data from different data sources within and sometimes outside the company, processing it and making it available to users in clear applications/reports.
Challenges often include the need to create a common understanding with the client at the beginning of the implementation process as to what the future reporting requirements are.
In addition, not only can the merging of data from heterogeneous data sources pose a challenge, but the calculation logic based on this can also be somewhat more complex.
Definitely! Due to the numerous user groups we deal with, you come into contact with many different areas inside and outside the company, which always results in varied activities. The prerequisite is, of course, that you have a basic interest in dealing with large amounts of data 😀
Supported by the cultural change that has been practiced for years, I believe there is an extremely pleasant atmosphere within the BAUR Group. One example that spontaneously comes to mind is the "you" and the open approach to feedback, which create an atmosphere of trust at work.
Feel free to contact us and see for yourself! 😊
