Internship in online marketing SEO - An interview with Sarah
Internship in online marketing SEO - An interview with Sarah

Not all marketing is the same, as I'm sure you've all noticed. Here, too, there are very different areas in which you can be active. Today we would like to introduce you to SEO, or search engine optimization, in more detail. For this purpose, we conducted an interview with our former intern Sarah.

Hello Sarah, can you please introduce yourself briefly?

Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm 23 years old. I recently completed a Bachelor's degree in International Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing at HAW Landshut and Novia University of Applied Sciences Turku in Finland. Before starting a Master's degree in Sweden, I wanted to get a closer look at the field of SEO. I'm originally from near Ingolstadt, but I've now moved to Bamberg for my internship at the BAUR Group. In my free time, I enjoy doing sports and cooking.

Why did you want to join the BAUR Group?

At the time, I had looked up the Fair Company Initiative on the Handelsblatt portal to find out which companies were listed there. The BAUR Group was mentioned there and stood out for me because of its positive corporate and cultural values. I really wanted to join BAUR for my time in Germany and looked for a suitable internship in marketing.

What do you do in online marketing, especially in the area of SEO?

We take care of BAUR's online presence on various channels. These include app marketing, search marketing, affiliate marketing and so on.

My area of responsibility was SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This is all about the visibility of BAUR on search engines such as Google, Bing & Co. but also the optimization of the internal search on baur.de.

What were your tasks during the internship?

I was able to carry out various keyword researches and optimize display names, meta titles and descriptions for the different categories, filters and searches. My tasks also included tracking tests and performance monitoring on the various channels. I also optimized the search results of the internal search at baur.de. This means that our customers who enter "blue dress" in the search line actually only see blue dresses in the search results.

What would you like most about your internship?

I would like to divide the question into a professional and a personal part. Personally, I found it very nice that despite the short time I was with the BAUR Group, I was very well received by my team and the entire department. I was given an introduction to all sub-areas of online marketing, so I didn't just get to know the SEO area. The BAUR b.welcome days were also great for getting to know new colleagues and settling into the BAUR Group.

From a professional point of view, I particularly liked the fact that I was able to get to know the online marketing sector from a completely different perspective. I had previously completed an internship at a start-up, but now I was able to gain a lot more knowledge at a larger company like the BAUR Group. I also really liked the fact that I was given so much responsibility right from the start. I never had to do the typical "internship tasks", but was given independent tasks with responsibility, just like my permanent colleagues.

What challenges did you face during the internship and how did you deal with them?

At the beginning, I only knew about SEO from lectures and I briefly touched on the topic in my bachelor's thesis, but I hadn't really worked in this area operationally yet. So I had a lot of input at the beginning and I was afraid that it would be difficult to acquire so much knowledge while working from home. But over time, I got into it really well and much faster than I thought.

What's next for you after the internship?

I'm starting a Master's degree in International Marketing & Brand Management at the School of Economics and Management in Lund, Sweden, in October. The internship here at the BAUR Group has confirmed once again that marketing is the right field for me. Now I would like to take a closer look at the methodology and acquire more theoretical knowledge.

Is there anything else you would like to say to our readers or your department?

I would definitely like to thank my department. I never had the feeling that there were stupid questions, but that I could write or call you with any concerns. It was also nice that we did things together outside of work and felt really integrated into the team.

I can only say to all readers that the BAUR Group is really a very modern company thanks to its cultural change and that you feel really well looked after and comfortable.

Dear Sarah, thank you very much for the interview. We wish you every success and all the best for your Master's degree in Sweden. You can find our open internships in online marketing here.
