Did you know that the BAUR Group employs many students every year? Students can complete internships with us and, as working students, take the opportunity to gain their first professional experience alongside their studies. Today, our former intern Ariane tells us about her experiences.
Hello, my name is Ariane, I am 27 years old and have been living in Bamberg since October 2019. I'm originally from Baden-Württemberg and grew up in a village between Stuttgart and Tübingen.
I joined the BAUR Group's Corporate Communications department as an intern in mid-September 2022 and stayed for a whole year. The first 6 months were still part of the practical module of my Master's degree in Literature and Media. I decided to stay at BAUR for another six months both out of affection for the company and because of the prospect of new projects that came with even greater responsibility.
I became aware of the BAUR Group through the job portal of my university's student group and applied directly for the position advertised there. The entire application process and the interview with Manfred and Stefan left such a positive impression on me that I didn't even have to think about whether or not the internship would ultimately be an option for me. The atmosphere, the tasks, the expectations and ideas - everything matched right away.
First and foremost, internal employee communication was my hobbyhorse, i.e. posting current topics about and directly from the company on the intranet. I also contributed to articles for external channels, wrote them myself and let off steam graphically. In addition, I have accompanied or organized one or two events and designed campaigns, such as Surfing without Worries, together with my team.
At the beginning of the second 6 months, a colleague from the HR department approached me with the "Diversity & Inclusion" project and requested support for the purpose of internal communication. Personally, the topic is very close to my heart, so it was incredibly rewarding for me to work on the visibility of diversity in the BAUR Group and to promote awareness in this regard. As part of this, I was also able to travel to the Otto Group in Hamburg and experience the Diversity Day program there. It was an incredibly exciting day filled with inspiring content, which on the one hand made it clear that the BAUR Group is still in its infancy with regard to D&I, but on the other hand provided ideas for possible formats for the seven diversity dimensions.
Quite a lot. Starting with the opportunity to work from home, the delicious food in the canteen and the "you" culture, which is practiced throughout and by everyone. Collaboration with colleagues from different departments also always worked smoothly and was more than satisfactory for everyone involved.
With regard to my own department, I found it very nice that I was given a lot of trust relatively quickly and was able to work on topics, projects and campaigns on my own responsibility. This not only allowed me to develop professionally, but also to grow on a personal level.
My career has now taken me to Nuremberg, where I am working in event management. I'm excited to see what's in store for me and am looking forward to the new challenges.
Absolutely. I actually already have. A friend and fellow student also applied for an internship in Corporate Communications at the BAUR Group on my recommendation and became my direct successor.
I can say with full conviction that of the five employers I've had so far, the BAUR Group is - as of now - the best of them all. For this reason, I am leaving the company with a smile and a tear in my eye. But maybe the path will lead back again at some point. 😊
