After the apprenticeship is before the further training - Aileen and Salimata decided after their apprenticeship here in the BAUR Group to be the first ever to do the further training to become a specialist in e-commerce.
We asked them what the training is all about, how they experienced the time and who they would recommend training to become an e-commerce specialist.
Aileen: My name is Aileen Nickel, I live in Bayreuth and work at empiriecom as a UCD consultant in user research.
Salimata: Hi, I'm Sali (Salimata Sarr) and I live near Leipzig. My journey at BAUR started in 2016 with an apprenticeship in wholesale and foreign trade. After successfully completing this, I was given the opportunity to work in Retail & Marketplace for the watches range. My tasks include providing the watches range with high-quality content and ensuring that everything runs smoothly online. I really enjoy working to offer our customers the perfect shopping experience.
Aileen: As I had already completed my training as an e-commerce businesswoman, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to add the specialist qualification on top. I wanted to deepen the topics from my training and continue my education. Once I had found out about the content and the training course and registered, nothing stood in my way.
Salimata: During my apprenticeship, the new apprenticeship occupation of e-commerce clerk was just being created, which now replaces the wholesale and foreign trade clerk here at BAUR and deals with online retail activities in more depth. Unfortunately, I was no longer able to change my apprenticeship at the time, but I received a further training scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for my very good qualification as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk. For me, there was no question that I wanted to use the scholarship for further training as an e-commerce specialist.
Aileen: The one and a half years were exhausting and required a lot of self-discipline. After a full working day, it wasn't always easy to sit down at the PC from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and follow the lecturers. I often studied at the weekends and worked through and summarized learning content. But I'm glad that I was able to complete the course remotely and only had to be in Nuremberg twice to prepare for the final exams.
Salimata: I decided to do the further training to become an e-commerce specialist in a part-time distance learning course (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15 pm to 8:30 pm) after my working day. The e-commerce specialist has only been around since 2020, so I was one of the first participants. The course was new, there were no exams from previous years and it was difficult for the lecturers to estimate which topics would be covered in the first e-commerce specialist exam and, above all, in what depth. It was therefore very important and unavoidable for us participants to work through all the topics of the framework curriculum in depth again in self-study.
Aileen: After passing the examination, the Fachwirt or Fachwirtin is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from a university (DQR level 6). This means that you have the opportunity to apply for higher positions or jobs that are advertised with a Bachelor's degree.
Salimata: The E-Commerce Specialist training course is assigned to level 6 (Bachelor level) in the German Qualifications Framework. This means that completing this further training provides a good basic foundation that can open many doors in professional life.
Aileen : A successfully completed final examination in a recognized commercial, administrative three-year training occupation and at least one year of relevant professional experience following the vocational training. However, this must first be proven for the examination, which is why I continued with further training immediately after my apprenticeship.

Aileen: I would recommend the training to anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge, works in an e-commerce environment and is interested in the subject areas of e-commerce specialists. It is also a good alternative to studying.
Salimata: I agree 😊
