In "Inside Training", trainees give you an insight into our apprenticeships and dual study programs. The series continues with Franzi, e-commerce clerk.
Hello, I'm Franzi, 24 years old and I'm from the Kulmbach district. I'm training to be an e-commerce clerk and I'm in my third year of training.
I already knew baur.de and the BAUR Group from family and friends. Through them, I got to know what the company is like and that it is a good employer. I wanted to do my apprenticeship there because I wanted to do something that interested me.
I didn't immediately decide to train as an e-commerce clerk. The original idea was to start a dual study program at the BAUR Group. To gain a lot of knowledge and practical experience as quickly as possible. However, Max, the training manager, then suggested that I do an apprenticeship as an e-commerce clerk. I then found out about the apprenticeship and as it sounded interesting, I accepted. The training content was a great fit and the BAUR Group is simply the right company for e-commerce training. Looking back, I'm really glad that I didn't start the next degree course straight away, but did the apprenticeship first. After my apprenticeship, I can always continue my education, there are many opportunities for this.
I have been working at empiriecom in the User Centered Design (UCD) department since the beginning of September. I am currently involved in the evaluation of mouse tracking, which involves recording mouse movements and interactions with the store. The aim is to analyze the behavior of users on the website. To use this knowledge to optimize the site and make it more user-friendly. On baur.de, for example, there are lookbooks in which the goods are displayed as in the catalog. We wanted to know how these are received by our customers. We looked at what they clicked on and how their mouse moved. I was allowed to make the evaluations via one of the Lookbook pages. The color gradations there showed which area the customers spent the longest time in. That's a really interesting topic. We could only see how customers behaved in the store if they accepted the cookies at the beginning.
Oh, I find it really hard to decide on a department. In Purchasing, for example, I thought it was cool that I was able to take part in sales meetings and see the new bag collection. It was also really exciting in Online Marketing Category Management and Shop Management. I'm looking forward to getting to know other departments and their areas of responsibility. But it's still the most interesting thing to see how everything ties in with what we learn at school.
I find it exciting that I am dealing with something that I and many others do in everyday life. Seeing and understanding the background to online retail is really fascinating. But the most exciting thing is to deal with something that you don't think about in your everyday life. For example, it's only then that you realize how you are influenced by advertising and the people behind it. Looking back, I'm a real victim of consumerism :D
The language trip to Malta is definitely recommended. Several trainees from the BAUR Group took part, not only the e-commerce clerks, but also the digitalization management clerks and IT specialists. We also got to know a lot of new people, as several classes took part in the trip. Gathering new impressions was a lot of fun.
There were always lessons in the mornings until 2:30 pm. Here at
we were able to improve our language skills through group games, debates and small discussions in teams of two. Through the interactive learning, you realize how you start to think in English and it helped me to communicate more confidently and fluently in English. I liked the fact that we didn't just stubbornly learn vocabulary, but were able to learn new vocabulary and grammar by speaking every day.
Most afternoons were free, so we often did things together as a group. We visited the famous beaches recommended to us by our teachers, such as St. Peter's Pool. The language school also planned several city tours for us through Mdina, Valetta and Gozo. Malta is a beautiful island in itself.
There are four of us in our apprenticeship year in e-commerce. And I would describe the contact as very good. We also get on really well outside of the apprenticeship and like to do things together after school. Sometimes the dual business administration student from our apprenticeship year also joins us. In general, I would say that our year gets on very well. When we have seminars together, it's great to see the others again. The first trainee get-together is coming up soon, so I'm really looking forward to it.
I approach things with more confidence and trust myself more. I'm also prepared to take on responsibility for tasks that I didn't think I could do before. Above all, the youth and trainee representation (JAV) has helped me to stand up for others and stand up for my opinion.
