Spring has sprung and with it comes the annual time change in March. For many, this means putting the clocks forward an hour and getting used to longer days and more sunlight. However, adapting to the new rhythm can be quite a challenge. Tiredness and a disrupted sleep rhythm often accompany this transitional period. But don't worry! With a few simple tips and tricks, you can master the time change without stress. 😎
Our internal clock, also known as the circadian rhythm, has a major influence on our sleep-wake cycle. The time change can disrupt this rhythm and lead to sleep problems or tiredness. That's why it's important to get used to the new time slowly. A few days before the changeover, start gradually shifting your bedtime and wake-up time by 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow your body to gradually get used to the new time without you experiencing too sudden a change in your rhythm.
During the transition period, it is important to get as much natural daylight as possible, especially in the morning. A short walk after getting up can help you adjust to the new rhythm. Daylight promotes the regulation of melatonin levels and makes you feel more alert.
The timing of your meals can play an important role in how well your body adapts to the new daily rhythm. Try to consume larger meals earlier in the day to give your body energy when it needs it most. A light dinner can help you not feel heavy late at night and make it easier to fall asleep. Timing your coffee in the morning can also help - try to drink it a little later than usual so as not to disrupt your body's natural waking process.
It may take a few days or even weeks for your body to fully adjust to the new time. Don't expect everything to normalize immediately. If you feel a little tired in the first few days, this is completely normal. Encourage yourself by celebrating small successes, such as getting up at the desired time or sticking to your new routine. A positive approach will help you see the adjustment period as an opportunity to develop healthier habits.
