In "Inside Training", trainees give you an insight into our apprenticeships and dual study programs. The series begins with apprentice Jule and her field of media design.
I'm Jule and I'm 23 years old. I was born in the north, between Hamburg and Hanover, and moved to Bamberg for my apprenticeship. I have been training as a media designer since September 2021 and am in my 3rd year of training.
I think the decisive factor was that I felt at home here right from the start. The welcome was very warm, starting with the interviews. The "you" culture immediately appealed to me. Right from the start, BAUR was a place where I could be 100% creative.
I found the application process very pleasant. I looked forward to every new reply by email. You first apply in the traditional way by email, in which you can show that you can think creatively. The trainers are always happy if you send them a few pieces of work.
If you are invited to Weismain, you will take part in the creative test, which consists of two parts. In the first part, you introduce yourself with the help of a presentation. The second part is the three-hour creative test. We sat at the top of the Sternensaal in Weismain. In addition to the creative test, you also get snacks and something to drink. For the tasks, for example, you draw a logo, come up with an advertising slogan, write a text and draw a bit.
However, you don't need to be afraid of this; I myself, for example, am not good at analog drawing. It's more about being creative and showing that you can think outside the box.
And if that works, there's an interview via video call. You talk about projects you have completed and present your own work. And then, in the best-case scenario, you are hired and have the chance to experience three years of creative work.
There are tasks that I do directly for the BAUR Group. These are, for example, graphics for the Insta-Crew or designing the gummy bear packaging that is used as advertising material. These tasks also include advertisements for graduation magazines and design support for the B.Our Shop team.
A large part of the training consists of fictitious tasks that we trainees create for sample customers. Depending on the task, I implement my ideas using various design programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator. That way you get to know all the processes and can let off steam creatively.
My favorite assignment is actually my current one, which is about a winery from Tuscany. We are designing a logo, an advertising slogan, wine labels and an advertisement for a wine magazine.
In short: I had a great experience. My trainers are great. I am very free in my creative processes and still always have a contact person for suggestions and tips. We are also in close contact with my fellow trainees. We talk to each other every day and use the time once a month to do something nice together in private.
For me, it's the perfect balance between feeling well looked after and always having a contact person, while still being free in terms of working hours, design processes and creative thinking.
We have several seminars on very different topics. Just recently, we looked at the dynamics within a group and learned what role we play. We also have the opportunity to acquire further knowledge and attend training courses through the JAV (youth and trainee representatives). There, for example, we deal with the rights and obligations of trainees or the structure of a JAV.
I found out from Noel, who works in my department, that the JAV was being re-elected and was looking for members. I've always enjoyed working with people and being a mouthpiece for others. It's nice to see that you can make a difference with your voice and that people are grateful when you stand up for them. A large part of our work consists of being on the works council, every Wednesday we get to discuss and vote on the issues in our area of responsibility. Outside of meetings, we talk about various topics, think about how we can optimize processes and are contact persons via various channels.
I have learned how much I enjoy working in a team with others and how important it is for me to exchange ideas. This has also been reinforced through my work in the JAV.
