Training as an e-commerce clerk - an interview with Jana
Training as an e-commerce clerk - an interview with Jana

Jana is in her second year of training as an E.Commerce clerk. Here she tells us what her tasks are, what she thinks of the apprenticeship and what she has experienced.

Hey Jana, can you introduce yourself briefly?

My name is Jana Pöhner, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Altenkunstadt. After graduating from high school with a focus on business, I started my apprenticeship as an e-commerce clerk in September 2023 and am currently in my 2nd year of training. In my free time, I attach great importance to having a good time with friends and family. Otherwise, you can usually find me at the stables with the horses. 😊

Time for either-or questions!

School or work?

In theory, it's better to get up earlier - but in practice it's better to get up later

Why this apprenticeship and why at BAUR?

During the Fachabi, I was allowed to do my school internship in the 11th grade at the BAUR Group. This was actually supposed to last half a year, alternating with school in blocks. But because I liked it so much here, I stayed for the whole year.
In the 12th grade, I started working on the topic of online retail on the side, as I was simply very interested in it. It didn't take me long to realize that I would like to pursue a career in this field. So one thing led to another and now I'm here.

Is it everything you hoped it would be?

Even though I was already able to get to know the company through my internship, my expectations were far exceeded. You are welcomed with open arms in every new department and become part of the team right from the start. You immediately feel at ease, which means that any initial fears quickly disappear. The training is very varied, which I really like, and the school days are also fun, as the teachers are very committed to promoting our profession. Overall, I can say that my expectations have not only been met, but exceeded, and I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Which department are you currently in and what does your typical working day look like?

I'm currently working in the Customer Insights, Brand & Planning department and am mainly providing support in the area of Customer Experience. If I take a typical Monday as an example, we have our weekly meeting in the morning to discuss the upcoming tasks for the week with our colleagues. Afterwards, I talk to my trainers about what tasks I have to do that week and where I can provide support. For example, I regularly prepare our internal customer news and have a lot of insight into the feedback from our customers. I also prepare the occasional report.

What do you like best about the apprenticeship so far?

What I actually like best is the variety that comes with the job. I've learned a lot in every department so far. I simply enjoy going through the different areas, which build on each other and are interrelated. For me, there is no "one" department that is the best. As the job is future-oriented, I think the opportunities that are open to you after your training are some of the best.

Do you have any tips for applicants?
  • Find out about us in advance, e.g. about our company values and culture. Feel free to individualize your application, i.e. emphasize important interfaces such as experience and skills that match the advertised position and, best of all, be authentic and simply yourself. 😊
Anything else you want to say?
  • I am very happy to be able to do my apprenticeship as an e-commerce clerk at the BAUR Group and can only recommend it to everyone. 😊
