School in Dublin? Not only that, but there was much more for me for 3 weeks in May! Three weeks in the Irish capital, characterized by new perspectives and interesting experiences. From the impressive cliffs of Howth to the culinary delights of the city - this blog post describes a unique trip.
In May 2025, I took part in a language trip to Dublin as part of my training, which was organized by the vocational school in Lichtenfels. The aim was to gain experience outside the classroom, improve my English skills and get to know the city and Irish culture. To do this, we visited the Everest Language School, where we had lessons for three weeks. From historical sights to local gastronomy or the daily exchange with our host family - this trip was an opportunity to gain new perspectives and intercultural experiences.
The first week in Dublin began with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. After arriving and being introduced to the program and the language school, we began exploring the city. A highlight of the week was the trip to Howth, a picturesque coastal village known for its impressive cliffs and spectacular views of the sea. The walk along the coast not only offered breathtaking views, but also the opportunity to enjoy the fresh sea air and observe the local flora and fauna. In the city itself, we visited the Irish Museum of Modern Art, where contemporary artworks were on display that were thought-provoking. The Guinness Storehouse was another highlight; here we not only learned about the history of the famous beer, but also enjoyed the view over Dublin from the panoramic bar. The week ended with a trip to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway, which, despite the long bus ride, was rewarded by the impressive scenery and lively atmosphere in Galway.
In the second week, the Dublin experience deepened further. In addition to the academic activities, there was time for further exploration. A special moment was the visit to Phoenix Park, where we finally saw the deer, which turned out to be surprisingly trusting. The park, one of the largest city parks in Europe, provided a fairytale setting and a tranquil atmosphere that brought us closer to the beauty of Irish nature. The walks in the park were relaxing and provided a welcome break from city life. We also visited the National Museum and the National Art Gallery, whose exhibitions offered interesting insights into Irish history and art. The artifacts from the Celtic period and the works of Irish artists were particularly impressive. The week was a mixture of learning and exploring, preparing for upcoming exams while continuing to explore the city. The exchange with other Erasmus participants from different countries made it possible to meet new people and gain different perspectives on life in Dublin.
The last week in Dublin was characterized by reflection and farewells. We enjoyed the city's culinary offerings and visited local markets to sample Irish cuisine. The traditional dishes such as Irish stew and fish and chips were a particular treat and offered an insight into the local food culture. Exams were the focus this week and after successfully completing them with the International Business Certificate, we were able to use the remaining time to experience the city once again. A final meeting with the Erasmus group provided an opportunity to share experiences. A relaxed get-together in the Buskers Pub near Temple Bar rounded off the week, where we reminisced about the last few days over music and a pint of Guinness.
The three weeks in Dublin were an exciting mix of learning and exploring. Not only did I improve my language skills and receive a certificate, but I also learned a lot about Irish culture and experienced the city from different perspectives. Dublin proved to be a place full of history and a lively atmosphere, with many interesting corners and experiences. The project was a great opportunity to gain new experiences and expand my knowledge. I will certainly remember this time.
