B.Our Shop - sustainable apple juice from our own production

Apple juice from the supermarket, packaged in plastic bottles and bags? Not with us! Our team from the B.Our store emptied several apple trees themselves, had the fruit processed into juice and sold it to employees of the BAUR Group in a sustainability package. Read this article to find out how extensive the project was:

15 trainees who are part of the B.Our Shop team carried out a sustainability project last fall. They pressed juice from self-picked regional apples, which was then sold to employees of the BAUR Group in combination with a sustainability package. Because the topic of sustainability is important to all of us, the B.Our Shop team approached this sustainable project with great commitment.

The organic apple juice made from home-picked apples was not sold individually, but together with an organic cotton bag and a BAUR thermos flask as a sustainability package. The design of the organic cotton bag reflects the sustainability concept and the design was created by one of our employees. The proceeds from the sale of the sustainability package will be donated to the gardening association in Lichtenfels.

Picking, collecting and pressing

Before the delicious organic apple juice could be offered in the B.Our Shop, the apples first had to be picked from the trees. Our hard-working trainees from the B.Our Shop team therefore met at an early hour on an October morning to take the company car to the first stop in Weismain.

Stefanie Bornschlegel kindly gave our trainees the opportunity to empty her apple tree for the project. The group of helpers then made their way to Gerd, an employee of the horticultural association, who provided some fruit trees for our trainees.

Packed with apple pickers, tarpaulins, baskets and sacks, our hard-working trainees got to work. First, fresh fruit lying on the ground was picked up before a tarpaulin was spread around the tree for the apples that were still hanging. They then shook the tree vigorously and harvested the remaining fruit with apple pickers. Even though everyone had wet feet at the end of the activity, the trainees' joy at the bountiful apple harvest was clearly written on their faces.

Where is apple juice made from fruit?

The following day, the sacks full of apples were taken directly to the district association's juice truck in Rothwind, where they were pressed into apple juice. This allowed the team to ensure that only apples picked in the region were used in the juice.

How much organic apple juice was produced during the campaign?

A total of 40 bags of 5 liters each have now been sold to our employees in the B.Our store. Managing Director Hans-Christian Müller (4th from left) and HR Manager Carolin Schmidt (3rd from left) also came along to the sales launch to taste the organic apple juice.

But the apple campaign was not the end of the project. After all, the juice was to be offered in a sustainability package in combination with a BAUR thermal bottle and an organic cotton bag.

A few weeks earlier, new fabric bags were designed for the B.Our Shop - and a suitable design was needed. As we have many creative minds in our company, the B.Our Shop team quickly launched a design competition to create the bag.

Design competition

The B.Our Shop team launched a call for entries for a design competition with the aim of creating a motif based on the theme of "sustainability". After numerous submissions, the trainees voted on their favorites and finally decided on the winning design.

And the winner is ... Sebastian Münch!

Sebastian is a working student at empiericom and won the competition with his design. He explains what he had in mind with his design:

"My idea behind it is that you can be proud of doing something good for the environment. The phrase "for a better world" is a statement that you are happy to support environmental protection in order to create a better world. The choice of the butterfly, whose wings are made of leaves in the BAUR colors, is intended to give the bag the necessary lightness and elegance. Ecological action is often associated with heaviness and effort. The motif is intended to break up this idea and thus transform it into a kind of lightness and elegance. The leaves that replace the wings show the beauty of nature and make the motif appear sustainable. The silhouette of the wings reinforces the idea of lightness, as it is not overwhelmed by heavy colors and gives the motif a minimalist nuance that can be reconciled with ecology."

We are very proud of our B.Our Shop trainees who work so diligently to promote sustainable and regional organic products and would like to thank them for their commitment!
